  In Native American culture, the medicine bag traditionally contains an item from each of the plant, animal, and mineral kingdoms, as well as from the human world. It is worn around the neck to keep it close to the heart.
  
  Items contained in a medicine bag, or bundle, are not for treating the ailments of others, but for maintaining your own harmony with natural and spiritual worlds.
  It begins with the ritual of finding or making the bag — a process that should not be rushed — then intuitively selecting the objects it will carry. A medicine bag is sacred and holds significance to you.
  The items in the medicine bag support your personal development. Individually, they provide a physical connection to a particular place, person or community. Collectively, they are tools to aid spiritual and emotional wellbeing; reminders of the values and beliefs to hold close and carry through daily life.

  Art enriches society through the weaving of relations between the cultures that create it and the cultures that receive it. Partial Common Ownership of Art is a new evolving system that allows artists, communities and holders of art to create structures of shared ownership and distribution of value that reflects those living relationships.
  
  PCO acknowledges that there are many stakeholders involved in the creation and distribution of art, rather than only a single artist and collector, or owner. Using blockchain technology, it provides a seed to grow a more compassionate and more fair art ecosystem where all participants can be legally and economically recognised: from those who inspire the initiation of an artwork, to the people involved in its production and maintenance, to those committed to sharing it with their communities.

  Hosting a potluck dinner is a way to bring a community together to celebrate and support each other. By contributing a dish, each guest shares a piece of their culture. Recipes are traded, stories are told and new friends are made. It’s compassionate, human and heart-felt — just as we believe technology should be.
  
  The origins of potluck are unfounded. Some say it refers to an unannounced dinner guest being fed leftovers, or ‘luck of the pot’. The phrase was first used in 16th century England, when such a dish would likely have been a hearty ‘pottage’, cooked in a large cauldron-style pot over the fire.
  An alternative theory, or perhaps myth, is that Potluck dinners derive from Potlatches – community events held by First Nations. Potlatches mark milestones including marriages and births, honour those who have died and bring comfort to their relatives, and are a way to display social status. Historically, the person with the biggest house would host, hundreds of guests would attend and the potlatch lasted for weeks.

  Women of the Gee’s Bend community, in an isolated part of Alabama, have been making quilts for generations. The matrilineal practice was born from necessity: to keep their families warm in unheated homes. Quilts are used as bedspreads, hung from walls and placed on the floor as insulation.
  
  Gee’s Bend quilts are made ‘my way’. Improvisation and deviation are all part of the process. Irregularity is celebrated. Scraps of fabric or cut up old clothes can be used. Discolouration and marks on the cloth are all part of the history that is woven into the quilt. The pieces can be assembled however they fit best.
  In the words of Mary Lee Bendolph, "[we would] get together and make the quilts just like we’re praying together". Quilt making is a communal process and a time to share stories.

  Sherpas believe that mountain peaks, ridges, valleys and foothills are inhabited by deities. Towering 8849m above sea level, Chomolungma (Mt. Everest) translates from Tibetan to Mother Goddess of the Earth. The Tibetan Buddhist goddess Jomo Miyo Lang Sangma is said to live at the summit.
  
  The daily lives of the Sherpas who work at Chomolungma are at the mercy of the mountain gods. Before an expedition can officially begin, a Puja ceremony is held to connect with the mountain deity to ask for permission to climb and for safe passage.
  Each member of the expedition team brings their climbing gear to be blessed by the Lama (spiritual leader), along with laying offerings of food and drink at the altar for the goddess. Juniper branches are lit to symbolise purity and bring good luck, and remain lit while climbers are on the mountain. Prayer flags are strung across the base camp. With each breath of wind, they send out prayers.
